Greetings Yacht Club Members,

I hope this finds everyone well and that you are all enjoying this fantastic summer weather these past few weeks we have been blessed with in the Pacific Northwest. All of those early summer showers kept our beautiful Lopez Island green, I can’t recall the last time the grass was still green in mid summer. Although July has quickly sailed by, it was a month that was action packed on the rock and I hope you all had a chance to enjoy the local festivities. This year’s annual 4th of July Parade did not disappoint with its hometown charm, including tractors, horses, antique cars and local businesses on full display! Followed up by one of the best fireworks shows in the state! A shout out and thank you to all of our local residents and members that volunteer to help put on this amazing show!

Finally after waiting 3 years, many of our members hit the water in the anticipated annual North Cruise which took place July 10 through 25th, with many members staying out longer…maybe some are still cruising! Our Rear Commodores Bj & Pete Christensen strategically and thoughtfully planned this fantastic trip! On behalf of everyone I would like to thank them for all of their hard-work and dedication in planning this trip. The many great photos sent in tell the story of the fun had by all who joined for part and or all of the trip, not to mention the captivating scenery and charming ports of call. Check out all the photos that were sent in along the way HERE>https://lopezislandyachtclub.com/2022-desolation-sound-cruise/ Also, our member Pam Christensen has put together a terrific Cruise Blog, this recap is live on our website, I encourage you all to check it out HERE>https://lopezislandyachtclub.com/desolation-sound-blog-by-pam-chrisensen/…Thank you Pam and to all of the Desolation Sound Cruisers that sent me pictures and stories of the cruise!

For our members who stayed on the rock, we had planned a golf tournament at the Lopez Island Golf course where Yacht club members were paired with Golf club members, we had 11 groups tee off with 21 yacht club members participating. It was a fun sun filled outing and was followed by a potluck and cash prizes! I hope we can make this an annual event, but  inject a little friendly island competition in next year’s tournament with Yacht Club members vs the Golf Club members!  First tourney rule: If you play for “team yacht club” you will get to play with all the clubs in your bag and help make the rules!

Hooray!! The annual Lopez Cup is just around the bay, mark your calendar for Sunday August 21st racing starts at 1:00pm. Thank you Russ Johnson for putting this together and Bill Diller and The Islander for the prizes! Cruise along in your boats and follow and cheer on your favorite sailboat!  Check out all the details and information HERE>https://lopezislandyachtclub.com/notice-of-race-and-sailing-instructions/
