Greetings Yacht Club Members,

Summer’s end is fast approaching…I hope you can all enjoy the last moments of summer while you can.  September/October is my personal favorite time of the year on Lopez. The weather is usually great up here these months, and the Apple/Pear harvest is in full swing.

The Lopez Cup on Sunday August 21st was a slow go as the wind did not cooperate with the sailors, stil everyone had a great time on the water. A big shout out to Russ Johnson for doing another superb job of organizing this annual event, and to John Zaborsky for being the committee boat!

The winners were:

Class A: 1. Sabra -Petersen 40, 2. Snoop -J70, 3. Taz -J70, 4. Lagertha -Sweden 45, 5. Riff -J70.

Class B: 1, Purple Martin -Martin 242, 2. Homeless Hare -Pyramid 660, 3. Wip -San Juan 30, 4. Kindred Spirit -Beneteau 38, 5. At Last -Alerian 28 DNF.

I would encourage you to go check out some of the photos that Leslie Ricther took on the committee boat. This is her amazing website!

Please join us for our September Membership Dinner coming up on the 21st at The Islander, with our guest presenter Rick Carlson speaking on “Tides”.  This should be a very interesting and informative event! Click the link for more details and to sign up.

Save the Date!!!! Saturday night October 29th for the 2nd Annual Halloween Party at the Lopez Island Golf Club, this will be another fun event, if you missed it last year…don’t miss it this year! This will be a Potluck style gathering. I will be making a large batch of Spooky Chili and Cornbread Muffins again this year.

Lastly we are looking to fill the Rear Commodores Board Member position for next year, so if you are interested or would like to nominate someone please contact Jan Wagner (edenhill@comcast.net), Bj Christensen (peteandbj@gmail.com or myself dustyforster@gmail.com).

I really hope you can all get out and enjoy these last 2 months of great boating weather, either out cruising, fishing and crabbing, or just out for a short cocktail cruise. Take advantage of everything our great area has to offer that makes it one of the most spectacular places in the world for boating!

I am looking forward to seeing all of you at our upcoming events.  Until then, Stay Safe and Well.

Cheers, Dusty
