Stewards of the Sea, Safe Boating, & Socializing

The purpose of the Lopez Island Yacht Club is to promote family boating recreation in all its phases, including racing, boating etiquette, safety on the water, improving the marine organizations having comparable goals, as well as advancing fellowship among people interested in boating.

2020 Youth Boating / Safety Award

The Lopez Island Yacht Club had two applicants for the 2020 Youth Boating/Safety Award this year. The “Lopez /Seafaring and Voyaging Program” and the “Lopez Family Resource Center” both vied for the scholarship awarded by LIYC for $1000.

Last year the scholarship was awarded to the Seafaring and Voyaging Program. As a requirement of the award the applicant must state a description of how the award must be used. The LFRC stated that the award would be used to purchase new life jackets and buoys with flags for their races and training.

On the strength of this obvious vital need, the Board voted to award the scholarship to the Lopez Family Resource Center this year.

Supporting the Youth Summer Sailing LIFRC

Each year the Lopez Island Family Resource Center offers youth summer sailing workshops to learn to sail on Lidos and Splashes from mid-July through the first week in August.

The Lopez Island Yacht Club proudly awards annual support for the scholarships, which comes from member donations specifically for this program.

Instruction is not limited to Youth Beginner sailing (ages 9-18), but also offer Intermediate Sailing, Intermediate/Advanced Sailing. In addition, there are sessions for Adult Beginners and Adult Intermediate Sailing for two week in mid August.
