Greetings Lopez Island Yacht Club Members!
With the first day of Spring just around the corner (officially March 20th) I am sure we are all getting excited about getting back out on the water to sail, cruise, fish, shrimp and crab, I know I am! With that said we have a number of fun upcoming events, both on and off the water this season.
As we begin 2022, our 44th year as a club, our club membership is up and we are financially sound. Thanks to all of you supporting our events last year and thus far, your support has contributed to our bottom line and has enabled us to make a very valuable purchase. I am proud to announce that this year the board approved the purchase of an AED (Automated External Defibrillator) unit. The unit will be kept at Lane Langford’s home. We will appoint an attending captain that will be responsible to bring the AED unit to all of our Membership events and cruises. We will have all board members trained on this device by the end of March. We also plan to offer a training session at a later date for any members that wish to be trained on this device. I sincerely hope we never have to use it, but it could just save one of our lives!
We had our February Membership dinner at the Islander with in person and some members joining in via ZOOM. Barring any technical difficulties we plan to have ZOOM available and open for all members to participate and join in during future events and meetings. Dee Dee Lozier gave a presentation on navigation lights which had great engagement and lively discussions, thank you Dee Dee. Maureen Christ was the winner of our Valentine Trivia quiz!! The cute Sailing themed table decorations were made by my wife, with up-cycled fabrics and wallpapers plus driftwood, sea-glass and shells from our beach.

We have our Membership Dinner this month on Thursday March 17th at The Islander, more details to come. This should be another fun event, I hope you all can join us.
The future events are shaping up to be some of the best the club has offered! We have our Opening Day Festivities weekend and will be welcoming back the Friday Harbor Sailing Club with us that weekend. There will be great food and music for everyone to enjoy. Also the annual safety inspections for members boats, a signup sheet will go out to everyone very soon. Scott & Suzi Jennings have graciously offered their beautiful waterfront grounds to host our annual Clambake, thank you so much Scott & Suzi. This will be great fun and we will have some great food there for everyone, details to follow soon! Pete & Bj have been planning a great looking North Cruise for everyone, this will be fantastic. I am looking forward to seeing all of you at our upcoming events. Until then, Stay Safe and Well!!
