Greetings Yacht Club Members,

As these past fall colorful and sunny months are coming to a close and with winter and the year end sneaking up on us. It seems an appropriate time to reflect on how fortunate we are to live on this beautiful island and be part of this great club. I have enjoyed and am thankful to have served as your Commodore this past year. And I am especially  grateful for all the support and many friendships you have given me. But in these next 2 months we still have a lot to do and fun to have! Before we move on I’d like to acknowledge and give a big thank you to Jan and to Pam Christensen for her presentation on this summer’s Desolation Sound Cruise at our October members dinner. I am sorry to have missed it but I heard it was enjoyed by all.

We all know one thing this club can do, and that’s have a good time as demonstrated at our club’s Halloween Party! This festive event was held at the Golf Clubhouse again this year and we had a great turnout with new and old members attending. Best Pumpkin award went to Joanne Blackburn and the best Costume went to Gaylynn Green and the Halloween Spirit award went to Michelle Nelson.

The board has approved the new Rear Commodore nomination and will present it to our membership along with the  2023 slate of officers. We will present the list to the membership at our November General Meeting and Dinner at which time the membership will vote on the 2023 slate of officers.

Please mark your calendars and join us for our November Membership Meeting and Dinner on the 16th at The Islander. Our guest presenter Dr. Megan N. Dethier is currently the full-time Director at the UW’s Friday Harbor Laboratories on San Juan Island. She is also a Research Professor in the Biology Department at the University of Washington, she has prepared a short presentation on Marine Research in San Juan County and What Happens at the UW Labs in Friday Harbor! Go to our Ship’s Store to sign up and choose your dinner.

Russ Johnson, our club’s “Sailing Chair” is putting together a new “Sailing Committee” for 2023 that will add some new sailing events for our club and share knowledge, help mentor and cultivate new sailors into the club.

We are also proud to announce our club’s 2023 “Fishing Committee” John Zaborsky, Dusty Forster, Sam Alhadeff and Bryan Nelson have all volunteered to help create a variety of new fishing, crabbing and shrimping events for club members that would like to join in. Our goal is to create fun casual “catching events “ while sharing and learning from each other.

I am looking forward to seeing all of you at our upcoming events. Until then, Stay Safe and Well.

Cheers,

Dusty
