Greetings Yacht Club Members,

The official Opening Day of the boating season is just days away!!! And I am super excited about our Opening Day Events. We will be hosting the Friday Harbor Sailing Club again for the first time since 2019. Their club members will be joining us Friday & Saturday at our events, and I look forward to showing them our friendly Lopez Island hospitality. I hope to see many of you there!

The “Lopez Challenge” is this Saturday at HIGH NOON! Our “Captain Russ” has been organizing this traditional famous sailboat race, Lopez Island Yacht Club vs the Friday Harbor Sailing Club, for many years. A big “Thank You” to Russ for all of his time and coordination in putting the races together for all of these years! Come on down to The Islander docks at HIGH NOON and show our support and cheer on our racing club members. Let’s cheer and keep the CUP here!

I would also like to congratulate Lane on the effort that he put into another successful Vessel Safety Inspection on our members’ vessels, we had 24 in all that took advantage of The San Juan Power Squadron’s safety inspectors that came over to Lopez Thursday April 28th.

For those of you interested in Shrimping, this year’s season will open May 25-28 and June 9-10 in Marine Area 7. Then in selected areas of Marine Area 7 June 23-25 and July 7-9. This is my personal favorite fishery of the year, it’s fairly easy and very rewarding with the large Spot Prawns we get around the San Juan Islands. If you have never been out to experience this, I highly recommend it. And for those of you who do go out, don’t forget to send your pictures to Judy so she can post them on our website.

Another reminder to “Save the Date” June 12th for our Clambake that will be held at the Jennings home, BJ and Pete will be making some “White” Chowder, and Arlene will be making “Red” Chowder. If you plan on attending, bring a side dish along and if you have a portable chair to bring, please do as there will be limited seating. Rumor has it the “Beer King” is making up another special batch of his home brew for this event…yummm! BJ will be sending out more details soon, so keep an eye out for it.

Who doesn’t like a parade, especially the Lopez Island 4th of July Parade! We are still looking for volunteers, whether you are creative, handy, or just want to join in on the fun. And don’t forget to mark your calendar for an Epic Fireworks Viewing Party, details coming soon!

I am looking forward to seeing all of you at our upcomI upcoming events. Until then, Stay Safe and Well!!

Cheers, Dusty
