Jonathan Nash and Erin Pettit are thrilled to have joined the Lopez Island community.  Both are professors at Oregon State University where they study ocean and glacier physics, spanning from Antarctica to the Indian Ocean, Alaska and Greenland.  They are part-timers on Shoal Bay, where they sail their Thunderbird sailboat (Yare, 26’, hull #100), which has been in Erin’s family since it was built in 1962.  They also dream of sailing their 42’ Nauticat sailboat (Curiosity) to Alaska and beyond someday. Together with their kids (Elliot, 20 and Sophie,14) and cats (Ocean and Aurora), they are out on the water as much as they can, kayaking, sculling, sailing, windsurfing and swimming.  When not on the ocean or ice for work, they look forward to becoming more connected to Lopez folks and the water, arts, science and music community here on the island.
