Steve and Becky met in Southern California where they grew up in neighboring towns not far from Newport Beach. Steve began sailing at age 8, his family purchased a Cal 25 called “Fiel Amigo” in 1972, and he remembers weekend day sailing out of the Balboa Yacht Club and annual summer excursions to Catalina Island. Married for 37 years and residents of the Pacific NW since 1990, Steve and Becky were introduced to Lopez Island by Terry and Manuela Crowley, and in 2004 purchased property on Tinkham Lane (next door to the Crowleys) and built their home here in 2013. Meanwhile, after a couple of decades without sailing, in 2010 Steve and Becky trucked Fiel Amigo from California to Anacortes and enjoyed several years of day trips and occasional overnights before “upgrading” to a 1978 Cal 2-29 called “Faithful Friend” in 2018 (Fiel Amigo is now owned by Paul Somer and is still anchored in Fisherman’s Bay!). In the summer of 2024 Steve and Becky took a big plunge and purchased a 2017 Benateau 38.1 called “Lola”. They are loving it and looking forward to many retirement years of sailing adventures in this beautiful part of the world.
